This lovely antique white tailed deer print features a beautiful autumn landscape in the Adirondacks. Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait created many gorgeous paintings with deer, but this particular one, with its rolling landscape and fall foliage, is one of his most spectacular works.
About the Artist
Arthur Fitzwilliam Tait was one of America's most celebrated sporting and wildlife artists, renowned for his intricate wildlife landscape paintings, deer hunting paintings, and deer art. Born in England, Tait immigrated to the United States in 1850 and quickly found inspiration in the beautiful forests of the Northeast. After exhibiting his work at the National Academy of Design, Tait's wildlife art earned him widespread recognition.
His career flourished through his long association with the New York publishing firm Currier & Ives, which reproduced many of his paintings as popular hand-colored lithographs. While many artists focused primarily on the hunt, Tait was equally enamored with the animals themselves and the surrounding wilderness, creating gorgeous landscape paintings that give you not just the animals, but the feeling of being there.
This is because he really was there! Tait frequently traveled into the beautiful Adirondack Mountains, where he would spend weeks at a time living in remote hunting camps. There, he sketched the landscapes and wildlife that you see in his paintings, immersing himself in the wilderness that would become his legacy.
